Hi guys, im from italy and i have a strange problem with my 550 ti AMP, well im not really sure if its the VGA, but i hope to find some sort of solution to my problem ^_^

my spec is:
CPU: intel core 2 quad Q8400
mobo: asus p5g41t-m le
ram: 8gb ddr3 1066 Mhz kingston
Psu: Seventeam ST-420BKV 420 W
HDD: maxtor 6V160E0 160 gb sata\300
VGA: zotac ge force 550ti AMP with the latest release of the drivers
OS: win 7 64

so, in normal condition my sistem work great, i play to all new games with no problems, but since one month randomly when i start a game i have framerate below 15 fps
i have checked if there are active process on my sistem when i try to play, if HDD is loading or writing something else, but nothing.

my sistem temperature is:
35\40° cpu (idle) 45\50°(play)
35\40° mobo
35° vga (IDLE) 75\80°(PLAY)
45\46° HARD DISK

here in italy we have around 35° of ambiental temperature now

there are 2 strage thing:

when i have this problem, the VGA temperature is low, normally when i star a game, the vga go arond 70°C in one minute, but in this case the temperature remain around 35\40° and i dont sense the classic buzzing of the capacitor coming from ta VGA.

if simply reboot my sistem, the problem is not solved, but if i shut down it and i restart my computer after 1 minute, all start to run fine.

sorry for the bad english, and i really hope to have some tip or solution to this annoying problem.

EDIT:

My psu voltages are fine, around 12.9v on +12V and 4.9V on +5V

Hi ganzo,

I would suggest to try updating the drivers to a more recent one. You can also try reseating your video card too.

Thanks for the reply :)

well, as i said, i already have the latest drivers from nvidia and they didnt solve my problem :(

for the VGA reset, is it a procedure via the nvidia control panel? or is it something hardware like the mobo bios resetting?

Gonzo,

He meant to take out the GeForce GTX 550 Ti AMP! and reinsert it in the PCI-e slot. By the way, were your drivers clean installed?

Hey Gonzo, were you able to remove and reinstall your graphics card? Are the frame rates still randomly dropping?

Hi hauntedcn, and welcome to the Z-Spot forums!

Please visit this YouTube link here to check out how this person installed his ZOTAC GeForce GT 430 in his computer. It is a rather simple process.

1. Turn the power switch on your computer off (if you have a power switch).
2. Unplug the A/C power cable and all other cables connected to the back I/O (input/output) ports (for example, USB, PS/2 mouse/keyboard cables, audio cable, etc.).
3. Place the computer case on a hard surface area for an ample and stable workspace.
4. Press the power button on the computer case. This should remove any possible electricity running through the system. Also, touch the power supply with your hands. This discharges static electricity.
5. Unscrew the side panel of your case.
6. Unscrew the screw which holds the graphics card in place.
7. There should be a tab on the right side of the port where your graphics card is installed. Make note of it, and press the tab so the card can be unlatched, and pull the card out.
8. Re-insert the card.
9. Install card-holding screw.
10. Replace the computer's side panel.
11. Plug back in all cables, turn the power switch on if you have one.
12. See if that solves the problem.

If you are still getting these random low frame rates, and have tried this solution, then please send an email to support@zotacusa.com and let them know in detail your computer specs and you are experiencing random frame rate drops, and they will be more than happy to help out.

I hope all goes well!
