I just bought the gtx 580 3gig version and have it installed in an evga 780i mobo with an intel E8400 CPU and 4 gigs of corsair memory with a 1000 watt corsair psu but for some reason my frame rates only increased by 10-15% over my old gtx 285. Also, my 3dmark vantage scores are about 15000 points less than people with gtx 580's and my 3dmark 11 scores are much much lower too! What am I missing here? Here's my full setup:

evga 780i mobo
intel e8400 overclocked to 4.1 Mhz
4 gig's corsair ram
Acer 27" 120Hz 3d gaming monitor
wd 150 gig raptor 10000 rpm os drive
1000 watt Corsair PSU
My cpu is cooled with water cooling using a Danger Den CPU block and radiator.

In BF3 I average about 30-35 FPS with video settings set to high (not ultra) with 1x aa and no as and blur is NOT turned on. I would think I could get 45-50 min FPS with this setup. Wierd thing is, when I set everything to low, it only changes my FPS by about 10 fps! I would think it would bring my FPS up to around 60-80 or more!

I plan on buying the evga Classified mobo next paycheck and an i7 CPU the next paycheck (with the memory) but in the meantime, I'd really like to get this card working at it fullest potential! help!!

Your processor is bottlenecking ur graphics card. E8400 is about 2 sockets behind so you will not see much improvement. If you plan on upgrading a graphics card you have to look into how new it is and as well as what some others with simmilar specs got.

I suggest you upgrade to a socket 1366 processor or 1155 or wait until socket 2011 is released to see major improvements from your graphics card.

If I am correct the e8400 is a dual core processor vs any other systems with a high end gpu is usually quadcore.

I highly suggest you upgrade your system if you want to see better improvements.

If you need help I am sure me or someone else will help you with a nice little build for parts and cost.

Yeah, I kinda figured my CPU was the bottleneck, which is why I'm upgrading over the next month. I was just hoping I could squeeze more outta the card in the meantime.

Another thing to keep in mind is that with BF3 lots of folks are having issues with this game if they have 4gb of ram or less. This is one of the first games that actualy use more than 4gbs of ram I'm willing to bet this is causeing some of the issue with this game in particular.

Like already mentioned your processor is hurting you also.

I wasn't disagreeing with you, you hit it right on the head his proccessor is a huge bottleneck. I was just adding in there while he is upgrading it will not hurt to get more ram since ram is so cheap right now as Battlefield 3 uses a ton of ram and I expect more games from here on out to follow this trend. Here are forum topics that talks about ram usage in battlefield 3: http://hardforum.com...d.php?t=1646441 and http://www.overclock...t-really-enough

This wouldn't affect my framerates significantly though. It's weird that I can change the video settings from "ultra" to "low" in BF3 and the fps only changes about 10-15 fps. it's seems to me it would be a much larger jump than that. Plus, I should at least be getting close to the same 3dmark (vantage and 11) scores as people with my setup but I am MUCH lower than them.
