No HDMI output from Fusion 350 ITX A-E motherboard

Hi,

I'm building systems based on the Zotac Fusion E350 ITX A-E. The motherboard works fine through DVI but I can't get it to output to HDMI. This is not just in windows, even the boot screen doesn't show up. I've tried an Asrock E350 ITX motherboard and that works flawlessly with the same TV and HDMI cable.
I also tried connecting both DVI and HDMI but Windows doesn't seem to recognise my TV and just says it's a CRT monitor...
I've tried two E350 ITX A-E motherboards but both exhibit the same behaviour, so I'm ruling out a faulty motherboard.

Can you provide any directions on how to troubleshoot this?

Best Regards,

Nuno

Here's a quote from our engineer:

Quote

I have heard about a similar complaint from other users, when they use HDMI "TV Set" connected to PC.

It turns out: the TV Set (when set to HDMI Input mode) refuses to give a valid display if the input signal is "low resolution" (eg, 640 x 480 during Computer Power On Self Test screen). After bootup to Windows, with Graphic Driver loaded, the HDMI display signal changes to "high resolution" (eg. 1366 x 768, or 1920 x 1080), then the TV Set can show a valid display screen.

The problem is NOT in the PC (or Display Adapter), but in the TV Set itself...... (It refuses to display a low resolution 640 x 480 mode).

To verify this, the user may change to use some other LCD monitor (not the TV).
Every LCD "Monitor" with HDMI input should be able to show a valid screen even at low resolution mode.

Perhaps you can borrow one from a friend? :D

Hi,

I wouldn't be too fussed if it was just the boot screen that didn't show up. The problem is that there is never a HDMI signal, even on Windows. I have the latest Catalyst drivers installed and still nothing. My TV is a Panasonic Viera HDTV, so not exactly an esoteric brand.

Very dissapointed, might just have to RMA all motherboards and switch to ASUS.

Best Regards,

Nuno Vitorino

Just wondering, is it happening to all the motherboards? If so, I can ask about this and see if it can be replicated.

We bought an initial batch of 3 motherboards and tested 2 out of the three. Could be BIOS, we'll try a BIOS update and see if that works. Even if it's BIOS, it's a huge hassle to update the BIOS in every single motherboard we receive.

I'll post the results once we try that out.

Nuno

Having a similar issue, though not exactly the same... I get output from HDMI in safe mode and during boot, but not as soon as the drivers are loaded. Tried windows reinstall and several different drivers. I've tried with an Eizo display, and through my Denon receiver, with same results. Forced to use DVI + optical for now.

I know this doesn't really help, but I just thought I'd chime in with my results...

I am having the exact same problem. At startup my TV blinks as if it is getting a signal from the PC, but then it goes to no signal again. I can never get a signal from the HDMI port. DVI works though.

I know for a fact that my TV can display really low resolutions. I can label the port as PC and it knows to accept standard PC resolutions.

Something is wrong with the Zotac board. Either a BIOS update can fix it or I am going to RMA the board.

I need the HDMI to function.

Any other options? How do we get the board fixed? I have had about 13 other motheroards / video cards connected to this TV via HDMI in the past and never ran into this problem.

Anyone else having this problem? How is this going to be fixed? Are there any bios updates scheduled to be released? What's currently being tested?

I wrote earlier about having a similar problem, but after further testing my problem is almost exactly the same.

When I connect via HDMI to:
Eizo CG241 via HDMI>DVI converter. Video during boot, but no video after windows loads the drivers.
Denon AVR4310 HDMI switch to JVC Projector. No video at all, but sound.
JVC DLA-X7 Projector connected directly. Video works perfectly, but then I lose my HDMI switching which is essential!

All in all very much hit or miss HDMI performance from this board. At the moment the solution has been to connect to my Denon via DVI>HDMI and audio via optical, which works fine, but is lacking uncompressed audio. I'm actually contemplating buying an Asus board.

Hi,

I just installed the same board connected to my JVC HD-ILA TV via a Monoprice HDMI switch and it's working great for me, I see the bios screens no problem and it also works well in Windows. Maybe it's just a HDCP handshaking problem between those devices.

My setup is Win7 Home Premium 64Bit and is OK. I installed the ATI driver and completed the missing ones with the ones Zotac have on the website.

I am having this same issue. I get post and even windows safe mode but nothing when windows loads. My screen goes blank. Using a DVI to HDMI adapter I can get both video and sound, but this is just unacceptable to me for a brand new board. My HDMI just needs to work. Did this turn out to be a hardware problem or one that has a software fix of some kind? I have tried the past 4 ATI drivers, 2 different televisions, a monitor, and updating my BIOS just to make sure i'm not missing anything... but it appears i'm not.

Same issue here. Post and safe mode works fine. Upon entering the login screen in normal Windows boot, the HDMI loses connection with the screen. DVI and DisplayPort work just fine.

Upgrading/downgrading video drivers doesn't resolve the problem. Upgrading BIOS doesn't help as well.

Also same issue here with ZBOX AD02.
It works fine with Linux.

When can we expect a fixed Windows Driver?

Bum-bum-bump...

As I've said before I'm not getting anything through HDMI when connected through my Denon AVR-4310, but it's working when connected directly. Seems it doesn't support repeaters as a previous poster was using a switch. (If it's a hard wired switch, there is no handshaking going on.)

I'm very tempted to just get another board... Very disappointed!
