I have modded the zotac gtx460 bios (the ordinary 1GB model) to allow fan speed range from %20 to %100. It's much more quiet and cooler now. The thing is that im at work right now, and will upload it tonight or tomorrow with installation instructions.

Wait for my next post.

Hi!

I'm more interested at directions of how to do it ( I'm not a HW noob, I can understand anything you throw at me at once, but I've never reflashed a VGA card BIOS before ).

I've read a few notes here and there about NiBiTor and others, but not much yet ( also @work here )

My model is ZT-40402-10P ( Stock reference basically )

I'd like to get better cooling right now and as soon as the warranty period is gone ( less than 6 months from now ), I want to add a massive Cooler and overclock it, ( Much like the aerecool from ECS GTX460Black )

I have another GTX460, an ECS Black Edition and I want to get both to ~ 810 clock in SLI in the not so distant future :)

(I'm returning the ECS card again, read this : Series issues with ECS GTX460 Black )

Thanks :)

I'm not sure Crime Of Heart even works for Zotac. Screw Zotac, they are not gonna release anything and its been what, 8 months?. Don't waste your time with this company. If they don't want to give proper customer service I say just don't purchase anything from them again. I won't.

Teevor, Return it for your money back if you can. Zotac is an awful company that doesn't care about customer service.

You can dump a copy of your "original" BIOS off of the video card by using Nviditor to save a copy.

I`ve done it before updating BIOS to the latest version, but unfortunately the original file was corrupted and could not be used for rolling back. So I realy need your help Friends. If you have such video card, dump your BIOS for me please =)

sorry for the delay,

so, here you have the bios file which is modded so that the fan speed can change from %20 to %100, so that cool and quiet. I don't have responsibility for improper flashing. Please read carefully how to install a vga bios.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SKZNE0D2

it is for the ordinary gtx 460 1GB model.

Enjoy,

I don't know if I would. Crime of Heart doesn't work for Zotac so I would says its extremely risky to do. I do appreciate him trying to help out because Zotac support really has done nothing for anyone and they have little to none knowledge of computer hardware and video cards.

Yes ZOTAC card is running hot compare to other brand's GTX 460, mine usually 36-42c at idle and goes up to horrible 87-90c at full load. I am using single card, no SLI and other hi-fi stuffs. Its regular usages report.
I request ZOATC authority to please provide us some solution or BIOS update etc. which can make it cooler without under-powering it.

Sknat25, does it have the small little fan on the edge of the card? and have you made sure ur comparing other cards simillar to it having that same fan? since most companys now put a aftermarket cooler on it, or a non reference cooler, w/e you may call it these days.

My gtx 460 amp! gives good temps because its a non reference cooler, just thought Id throw it in.

I just dont trust them little tiny fans that Nvidia cards have, I prefer big loud fans if need be.
Your #1 Zotac fan.
Will help if I can to any user on forums
Rep Points appreciated =)

Thankyou for choosing Zotac as your computer hardware Manufacturer.

Hello fellas.
I purchased a ZOTAC gtx 460 768mb card
First one was faulty and it went off. I got a replacement and when I updated my drivers to 285.62 my card started to give me problems. Screen just goes black and the fan spins at horrific speeds. I usually have to manually restart the pc. This usually happens when I try to play some game or run any graphics intensive application. I downloaded furmark and their similar apps for benchmarking. Everytime i try to run them my screen runs black.

At first I thought it was my power supply. I managed to install a new one(a usual 450 Watts) with my original supply (ZEBRONICS 600 Watts).
I used a 12volt relay from the 600w one and used it run the other one.
The new one is meant only for the GPU. So now there should be no more issues as there is adequate supply.
But again there was the same issue.
I also ran a test to check my video ram. It was fine. The card is not overheating . the temperature is around 26 degrees.

Then i thought it would be good if I downgraded my drivers to an earlier version. I downloaded 260.99. It gave me the same result. Actually this time the windows would not even start. Everytime it goes from the welcome screen the screen goes black, and the computer restarts. Then I realized that this driver too was more unstable than the previous one.
I booted into the safe mode and uninstalled that too. I ran fine with no driver installed.
I am now running the oldest version available on nvidia site the 258.99. It is not giving any problem.

Zotac or nvidia should look into this problem. This is definitely a DRIVER issue.

The card works fine on Linux.

If a bios update is necessary they should provide it.

My PC specs:
core i7 960 @ 3.20 GHz
2 GB ram
MSI X58 pro-e Motherboard
